The Fascial System is a three dimensional connective tissue web that covers, surrounds and supports every muscle, organ, joint and nerve within the body. Fascia is alive and changing according to the bodys demands. Myofascial release is a hands on whole body approach to treating somatic dysfunction and accompanying pain and restriction of motion caused by fascial strain. This is accomplished by relaxing contracted muscles, increasing circulation, increasing venous and lymphatic drainage, and stimulating the stretch reflex of muscles and overlying fascia. When the structure of the body has been returned to a balanced state then optimum pain-free function and performance is the outcome.
Breaking the Cycle
In layman's terms, we apply pressure and stretching to the soft tissue in the connective tissue of various parts of the body which, when inflamed over a long period, can thicken and cause pain, irritation and further inflammation. Once this cycle begins, it propagates itself until you're in continuing pain, sometimes in parts of the body not associated with the initial problem. Due to the continuity of the fascia, tension in one area of the body will affect the entire fascial system. For Example - an injury to the lower back may over time develop into headaches, neck pain, upper back pain or feelings of tightness in areas distal to the original injury site.
At Core Body Therapy, we don't stick to a textbook definition. Instead, we utilise powerful soft tissue techniques to focus on musculoskeletal pain that have evolved out of nearly a decade of clinical practice and teaching, including advanced stretching techniques, craniosacral therapy and PEMF Therapy.
